where my mind yearns  ( 2020— )                on tour                more information

               where my mind yearns—upside down
where my mind yearns is circus artist milla jarko's always developing concept, a platform—site specific, expanding project and piece of art, and an artistic practice                where my mind yearns looks at the world upside down; inverts, influences, follies, tangibly doing differently, head downward                where my mind yearns lingers ( inappropriately ) in varying surroundings

as one hangs upside down on the tram stop roof, on the neighbour's mailbox or on a branch at the edge of the forest—how does the experience transform?                how about the landscape?                where my mind yearns is a prank, a joy, a momentary tipper of cognition and perspective—a jester!                where my mind yearns invites to pause and hopes to delight, to amaze, to touch!                where my mind yearns -laboratory on instagram

science is not enough!                  whaaaat, i had always thought that art wasn't enough! ”

               pyhäjoki-project ( 2020 )

in an artist residence in pyhäjoki as a guest of noidanlukko co-operative and information center hanhikivi together with circus artist noora pasanen
after a laboratory on instagram, an idea of a group of people head downword as an installation or an action sprang up                  · wondered could where my mind yearns be also an artivist ( activist art ) means of action?                · suggested the idea to noidanlukko and in the summer · and circus artist pasanen travelled to the residence in hanhikivi in pyhäjoki to further investigate the matter

at the artist residence we met with environment activists senni lappalainen and niko humalisto and the artist mox mäkelä                we pondered the “insufficiency” of the effects of science and art as isolated industries and discussed the painful recent past of the locality; the current atmosphere in relation to the escalated events in 2015 concerning the construction project of the hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant                collaboration between art and science, and the artivist methods and actions derived from it, could increase effectivity for instance in environmental influence                combining art and science can awaken people's curiosity and emotions towards environmental issues and thus inspire us to act for the nature more efficiently and influentially                additionally we got acquainted with the local history and environment with the guidance of artist mäkelä                we also investigated inverting the landscape and shot videos of it: if we would listen to it upside down, what would it tell us?                could we embody the local environmental effects with ( contemporary ) circus bodies, with ( contemporary ) circus movements?                can ( contemporary ) circus movement be an “attention drawer”?                ( contemporary ) circus movement could function as an efficient way to  draw attention, to pause and bring together                thus,  ( contemporary ) circus movement could partake in political influence by bringing up important social issues like equality, inclusion, and  sustainability                ( contemporary ) circus movement can combine for example absurdity, skill, disturbance, playfulness, and joy, which makes it a multifaceted and effective means of communication

thank you for the wondering, discussing and meeting: circus artists noora pasanen and emma langmoen, environmental activist senni lappalainen / co-operative noidanlukko—hanhikivi information center, environmental activist and environment politics docent niko humalisto, artist mox mäkelä and the local inhabitants
