               songworthy  ( 2017 )

songworthy  is fuelled by fear of failure                we hide ourselves behind roles, statuses, appearances to not expose our vulnerability                but when the performance eventually fades out, what remains?                what is important?

!spectacular, spectacular, welcome to see a failure! ”

the contemporary circus performance songworthy dives into current beliefs, spirit, rhythm and stories and reflects them against their ancient finnish equivalents with all seven senses                songworthy combines vocal and bodily narration, in which the extreme physicality of circus acts as unceasing achievement                the heart of the piece is unconditional love and frankness inspired by the spirit and presence of the people with disabilities, the elderly and the nature

...please leave your statuses and smart devices outside, thank you! ”
the year-long artistic process has included digging into finnish ancient beliefs, working periods in forest areas, workshops for people with special needs and seniors led by circus artist milla jarko sourcing from finnish mythology and folktales                the workshops were organized in collaboration among others with the kirkkonummen kehitysvammaisten tuki ry ( support association for people with disabilities ), sysmän palvelutalo ( sheltered home for elderly ) and visual artist maileena byström                jarko donated their entire performance fee to FASD people |  kehitysvammaliitto » FASD                teaser

milla järvinen…                is more than a circus artist                rather an all-encompassing experience transmitter                järvinen doesn't set out to conquer the stage, she just is intensely present                exposes herself and is a part of a community, which she even gets the spectator to belong in”
